Kano Emirate Tussle: Northern Professionals Forum Supports Kano Government’s Decision

By Aminu Garko
The Northern Professionals Forum has declared its full support for the Kano State Government’s decision to reinstate Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, following a review of the Kano State Emirate Council Amendment Law (Repeal Bill) 2024.
Architect Usman Yusuf, the Director-General of the Forum, made this known during a press conference at the NUJ Secretariat, Farm Center, Kano.
He stated that the Forum, comprising indigenous professionals from Northern Nigeria with diverse expertise and scholarship, has closely followed the controversy surrounding the executive assent and approval of the Kano State Emirates Council Amendment Law (Repeal Bill) 2024.
After consulting with legal experts and conducting a thorough examination of the issue, the Forum affirms that the actions of the Kano State House of Assembly, the approval and assenting of the Bill, the dissolution of the embattled Emirates, and the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, were all in accordance with the law and the powers conferred on the Governor by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The Forum called the press conference to set the records straight, redefine the narratives, enlighten the public, and provide factual evidence to media outlets, as the actions of the Kano State Government are consistent with the law and constitutional provisions.
Yusuf noted that the court order halting the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II was belatedly executed and not received by the Attorney General of Kano State or Emir Sanusi until Sunday evening.
He condemned the grandstanding and gangsterism with which the court order was celebrated and pursued by disgruntled elements, posing a threat to peace and stability in Kano State, the North, and Nigeria.
The Forum rejected the actions of miscreants and jobless clowns attempting to foment trouble and sabotage the reign of the 16th Emir and called on former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero to toe the path of honor and dignity, allowing peace to reign in Kano State.
They also urged politicians who authored the balkanization of the historic Kano Emirate to embrace the new law for the progress and continued coexistence of peace-loving people in Kano State.
The Forum described Emir Muhammad Sanusi II as one of Arewa’s finest intellectual properties, an internationally celebrated economic magnet, a repertoire of Islamic ideals and knowledge, and an orator of high standing, making him the best choice for the contemporary development of Kano State, the North, and Nigeria.
