Emirship Tussel: Court restrain deposed Emir Bayero, 4 others from acting as Emirs

Kano, May 27, 2024(NAN) A Kano State High Court, has restrained Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, and Four other dethroned emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye from parading themselves as emirs, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The court granted the motion exparte order dated and filed May 27, moved by Ibrahim Isa-Wangida Esq, counsel to the applicants, Attorney General of Kano State, Speaker Kano State House of Assembly and Kano State House of Assembly.

The respondents in the suit are: Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero Bichi emir , Dr Ibrahim Abubakar ll, emir of Karaye , Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa, emir Rano and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya, emir of Gaya.

Others are Inspector General of Police, Director State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria Army.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, granted an order of interim injunction restraining the the 1st 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th respondents by themselves, servants, privies, and or any other persons.

“Officers serving under them or acting in connection with any other person from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the applicants.

” an order is hereby granted to the extent that the Commissioner of Police Kano State should immediately take the palace of the Emir of Kano situate at State Road Kano and evict the 1st respondent from the said palace pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

“The court also restrain the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th & 5th respondents from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye in the interest of peace in Kano pending the hearing and determination of the
motion on notice.

“That an order is hereby made that 1- 5th respondents be through the office of the Kano Commissioner of Police, to ensure immediate implementation of the order of the Hon. Court in the interest of justice.” Adamu-Aliyu said

Adamu-Aliyu adjourned the matter until June 11, for hearing of motion on notice.

NAN reports that a Federal High Court in Kano, Presided over by Justice A M Liman, issued an order stopping the state government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law.

The State House of Assembly on May 23, dissolved all the four newly created Emirate council’s in the state.

NAN reports that Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, on May 23, reappointed Lamido Sanusi, as the Emir of Kano, four years after he was dethroned by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
