Kano Govt to support indigenous students at Fed. Varsities

Kano , The Kano State Government has concluded arrangements to support to indigenous students studying at various federal and other state universities.

This is contained in a statement issued by Chief Information Officer, Ministry for Higher Education,Sunusi Kofar Na’Isa on Saturday.

Dr.Yusuf Kofar Mata, Commissioner for Higher Education, disclosed when he received the Kwankwasiyya Students Forum at his office.

He said that arrangements have reached an advanced stage by the state government to extend financial support to its students currently in various federal and state universities.

He explained that the present administration has invested significant resources in education in the state, amounting to billions of naira aimed at providing potentials and skilled resources personnel to ensure the state has visionary leaders.

The Commissioner mentioned that apart from settling indigenous students studying at BUK, sponsoring 1001 foreign students, and subsidizing 50% of fees for all indigenous students studying at state-owned tertiary institutions, Governor Abba Yusuf is exploring possible ways to extend this gesture to federal universities soon.

The universities in consideration include Federal Universities Dutse, Federal University Kashere, Federal University Dutsinma, ABU Zaria, Federal University Gusau, University of Maiduguri, University of Jos, Law students, and Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.

He affirmed that the ministry had forwarded the request to the government.

“We have already made a proposal and submitted it to the governor for his blessing, and we have contacted the management of your institutions,” Kofarmata stated.

The Commissioner called on the students to devote themselves to their studies, not allowing any person or group to use them for indiscipline or political thuggery.

He thanked them for the visit and urged them to continue praying for the existing peace in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Earlier, the President of the association, Comrade Yusuf Kumbotso, commended the state government for its laudable programme that directly contribute to human development.

He appealed to Governor Abba Yusuf to support indigenous students studying at federal institutions in settling their registration fees due to economic predicaments.
