The Kano atate government says it had conducted thorough investigation on the AGILE programme which was targeted at supporting the Education of the Girl Child.
The Commiasioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa disclosed this during a stakeholsers meeting held in Kano.
He said following agitations and complains from ulama’s and other stakeholders on the negetive aspect of some portions of the programme ,the ministry had conducted a thorough screening of the entire AGILE programme and had exponge all the aspects that are contrary to the teachings of Islam,and culture.
“Agile programme entails three portions ,aspect of building structures ,empowerment and enlightenment,but we have realized that the aspect which stakeholders are not comfortable with is in the aapect of enlightenment”
“We established a commitee which reviewed the AGILE Text Books and all areas that are contrary to our religion and culture has been exponged,and we call on the Ulama’s and other relevant stakeholders to come with suggestions and opinions on any program sponsored by foreign donors “
In his remark the coordinator of the program in Kano Alhaji Nasiru Kwalli said the resolutions of the stakeholders meeting would be translated in Hausa ,Arabic for stakeholders to have a clear understanding of what the Girl Child are being tough in school aimed at ensuring that it tallies with the teachings of Islam,and the culture
Radio Nigeria recalled that recently the Emir of Katsina has directed that the AGILE programme should be stopped in the state because it contains aspects that are contrary to the teachings od Islam and culture
