Ensuring adequate and exclusive breastfeeding among infants within their first six months have been described as the major pillar of ensuring a healthy infant during his developmental days.
An expert on child Nutrition Dr Murtala Inuwa Disclosed this during a media dialogue organized by a non governmental organization named Alive and thrive in Kano.
He said the attitude of feeding infants with other nutrients rather than breastfeeding in the early stage was a great mistake , and can caused a lot of set back in the child’s development.
“failure to adhere to exclusive breastfeeding among infants within their first six months may lead to psychological and physical challenge within the child “
In his remark the head of the non governmental organisation Dr Ashiru Mohammad said the objectives off the media dialogue was to acquaint working journalist the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in child’s development , so that they can relay the message to the general public.
He advised parents to adhere strictly to exclusive breastfeeding geared towards having a healthy society.
Earlier the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ , Comrade Abbas Ibrahim urged journalist to expedite action in ensuring that the the general population were adequately sensitive on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding .
The meeting was attended by working journalist from different media organizations in Kano.
