Zamfara Governor Defects from PDP to APC

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following what the state government described as extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Director-General of Media and Communication in the Office of the Governor, Nuhu Salihu Anka, at the Government House in Gusau.

According to the statement, the decision followed wide consultations with political leaders, elders, and supporters across Zamfara State aimed at ensuring political stability, progress, and sustainable development.

The statement explained that the governor’s decision was influenced by the prolonged internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and unresolved structural challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party at both national and state levels.

These issues, the government noted, had created uncertainty and political distractions capable of affecting effective governance in the state.

Governor Lawal stated that his foremost responsibility remains the peace, security, and development of Zamfara State.

He noted that aligning with a political platform that promotes unity and enables stronger cooperation with the Federal Government would better serve the overall interests of the people of the state.

According to the statement, the final deliberations that culminated in the decision were held at the Government House in Gusau and were coordinated by the Deputy Governor, alongside senior government officials and key political stakeholders from different parts of the state.

While expressing appreciation to members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party for their support over the years, Governor Lawal said the prevailing political realities and unresolved internal challenges within the party made it necessary for him to take the step in the interest of good governance and the future of Zamfara State.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening unity, improving security, and accelerating development in the state through enhanced collaboration with the Federal Government under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The Zamfara State Government therefore called on citizens, political leaders, and party supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the state enters what it described as a new political phase aimed at promoting unity, stability, and sustainable development.
