SMARTISAN INVESTMENTS NIG LTD, a locally‑registered company specialising in the research, development, manufacturing, sales, maintenance and rental of unmanned aerial systems, on Tuesday announced a comprehensive suite of drone solutions aimed at transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
The Managing Director, Mr. Charles Li Yan , said the company’s flagship product line includes precision crop‑protection drones capable of spraying pesticides and fertilisers with millimetre‑level accuracy.
He said that by reducing input waste and ensuring uniform coverage, the drones help farmers lower production costs while increasing yields.
In addition, SMARTISAN’s drones are equipped with high‑resolution multispectral cameras that provide real‑time data on crop health, enabling early detection of disease and pest infestations.
Beyond crop protection, the company offers drones with a range of auxiliary functions that complement farming activities.
Heavy‑lift drones can transport seed bags, fertiliser bags or small equipment to remote fields, mitigating the challenges of difficult terrain. Security drones conduct aerial patrols of farms and livestock, deterring theft and monitoring grazing patterns.
Fire‑fighting drones are fitted with water‑carrying tanks and spray mechanisms to quickly suppress bush fires that often devastate farmlands during the dry season.
Surveying drones generate detailed topographic maps and three‑dimensional models, assisting in land‑use planning and irrigation design.
“At SMARTISAN, we are committed to leveraging cutting‑edge technology to address the practical challenges faced by Nigerian farmers,” Mr. LI Yan said.
“Our drones not only improve efficiency and profitability but also promote sustainable practices by minimising chemical usage and protecting the environment.”
The company has already begun pilot programmes with several state agricultural ministries and farmer cooperatives in the North‑Central and South‑Western zones.
Early results indicate a 40 percent reduction in pesticide application and a 15 percent increase in average crop yields.
SMARTISAN plans to scale up production and establish regional service hubs to provide maintenance, training and rental services to small‑holder farmers across the country.
The initiative aligns with the federal government’s “Agriculture for Prosperity” agenda, which seeks to modernise the sector through technology adoption and increased private‑sector participation.
The company’s offerings are also expected to create job opportunities in drone operation, data analysis and technical support, contributing to rural economic development.
