The Hadejia–Jam’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has pledged stronger collaboration with security agencies to enhance food security across its operational areas.

The Managing Director of the Authority, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, made the commitment while receiving the Commander of Mopol 9, Kano, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mu’awiya Abubakar, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Authority’s headquarters in Kano.

Alhaji Bichi said the partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, under which the River Basin Authority is mandated to provide adequate irrigation facilities and promote modern farming techniques capable of boosting national food production.

He added that security support is critical to achieving uninterrupted farming activities in both rural and urban communities.

As part of the collaboration, the Managing Director directed his technical team to commence a survey for the construction of a borehole at the Mopol 9 Barracks in Kano, describing it as a contribution to improving the welfare of officers and their families.

Bichi appealed to security agencies to continue intensifying efforts toward safeguarding farmlands and river basin project sites to ensure farmers operate without fear of attacks, thereby contributing to national food sufficiency.

Responding, ACP Mu’awiya Abubakar commended the Authority for its extensive efforts in irrigation development and food security.

He said the courtesy visit was also in line with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s community policing strategy, aimed at strengthening partnerships with key institutions and fostering safer environments for socio-economic activities.
