The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) North Central Zone has condemned and rejected the appointment of Mrs. Tomi Somefun as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADDEC), citing a breach of the Establishing Act.
According to Section 12 (a) of the HYPADDEC Act, the Managing Director must be an indigene of a member state, rotate among member states, and not be from the same state as the Chairman.
Mrs. Somefun’s appointment allegedly disregards these statutory requirements, as she is not from any of the member states.
NANS North Central Zone is urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse the appointment and ensure strict adherence to the Act establishing the commission.
The association believes that this breach undermines HYPADDEC’s integrity and effectiveness.
The member states of HYPADDEC include Niger, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, Plateau, Kaduna, and Gombe. NANS North Central Zone demands that the President rescind the decision and restore order.
