Sightsavers Nigeria, IT Bridge Academy Celebrate Landmark Graduation of 25 Persons with Disabilities in Kano

Kano, In a groundbreaking ceremony, the IT Bridge Academy, in partnership with Sightsavers, proudly celebrated the graduation of 25 persons with disabilities (PWDs) equipped with digital skills, empowering them to become self-reliant and potential employers of labor.

The graduation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the academy’s mission to promote digital inclusion, attended by dignitaries, partners, and family members. 

Mr. Sunday Isiaku, representing Sightsavers Nigeria, congratulated the graduates and emphasized the organization’s commitment to creating opportunities for PWDs in the digital economy ¹.

David Daser, President/CEO of Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), commended the graduates for their perseverance and determination, highlighting the importance of disability inclusion and digital accessibility. 

The IT Bridge Academy provides PWDs with industry-recognized certifications in IT skills, enhancing their employability and economic independence.

This program aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on promoting democracy, driving economic development, and harnessing Nigeria’s demographic potential. 

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Special Adviser ICT, Malam Yusuf Sharada, lauded the commitment of Sightsavers and the IT Academy for empowering people living with disabilities.

Executive Director Ingausa Mustapha Habu emphasized that PWDs deserve special respect and honor, recognizing their unique abilities. 

The graduates were urged to utilize their knowledge and be good ambassadors for their families, the state, and the nation.

Mr. Peter Gwer, speaking on behalf of the graduates, extended heartfelt regards to Sightsavers and the IT Bridge Academy for investing in them. “Our graduation is not the end, but a beginning of a new era. 

“We call on national and international companies to create job opportunities for us, and we assure you that we’ll never let the confidence placed in us down.”
