Traders at the Singer Market in Kano have praised the Federal Government for its efforts in enhancing food security in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association (SIMDA), Barr. Junaidu Zakari Mohammed, expressed his appreciation for the government’s interventions, which have led to a significant decrease in the prices of essential commodities like rice, pasta, and noodles.
According to Zakari, the Federal Government’s decision to grant waivers on the importation of these commodities has had a positive impact on the market.
“The prices of these items have crashed, and people are happy that they can afford them. We hope the government will sustain these waivers,” he said.
Zakari also appealed to the Federal Government to create a competitive environment that encourages the establishment of more food processing companies.
This, he believes, would increase the volume of foodstuff available in the country, leading to lower prices.
Furthermore, the chairman urged the government to intensify its efforts to develop agriculture, including providing improved seeds to boost yields and enhance food security.
He emphasized the importance of improving security in the country, enabling farmers to cultivate their land without fear ¹.
