The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to recertifying Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) documents, with a deadline of January 31, 2025.
Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Umar, emphasized the importance of meeting this deadline, urging landowners to recertify their documents to avoid any unpleasant experiences ¹.
Over 2,000 CofOs have been recertified since the exercise began on November 25, 2024, with over 1 million recertification-related interactions recorded.
The commissioner commended the citizens of Kano State for their positive response to the exercise.
The recertification exercise aims to modernize land management through the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS), eliminating manual processes and reducing errors and delays in land transactions.
The new system also features advanced security measures, making it nearly impossible to forge certificates and safeguarding property owners against fraud.
The commissioner also announced the commencement of Sectional Titling in the state, which will simplify the ownership process for businesses and individuals.
He expressed optimism that the recertification exercise would enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and promote transparency and accountability in land administration.
