Sightsavers Empowers 100 Physically Challenged Women in Kano through Entrepreneurship Training

Sightsavers Nigeria, a non-governmental organization, has conducted a four-day entrepreneurship training program for 100 physically challenged women in Kano, aiming to make them self-reliant.

At the Murtala Mohammed Library in Kano, Anita Nchat Kelvin, Sightsavers’ Program Officer for Girls’ Education, distributed start-up packs to the beneficiaries. 

“Our goal is to equip young women with disabilities with essential skills to start and sustain businesses, addressing their vulnerability and marginalization in society.”

The training focused on identifying business opportunities and strategies for growth. 

The start-up packs included toothpaste, Pears Baby products, and cooking materials, supported by Unilever and the GBF Growing Business Foundation.

Beneficiaries Fiddausi Mohammad Umar and Amina Jibrin Shuaibu praised Sightsavers and partners for the initiative, promising to utilize the training and start-up packs to become self-reliant.

Sightsavers aims to empower 400 beneficiaries in the near future, promoting economic independence and inclusivity for women with disabilities in Kano.
