Kano Govt. Holds Workshop on Incorruptible Governance for LG Personnel

Governor Abba Yusuf has held a two-day capacity building workshop for senior civil servants of the 44 local government councils of the state.

The workshop is aimed at sensitising the participants on transparency, accountability and inclusiveness in governance.

The governor said the event, held at Dawankin Kudu is also “to bring onboard the participants to our administration’s principle of good governance that has always enabled us come up with meaningful projects in our effort to restoring our dear state to its past glory.”

“This underscores the importance we attached to the fight against corruption and more importantly to the transparency and accountability in governance.”

Yusuf said his government was based on the foundation of transparency and accountability as well as the entrenchment of the rule of law in the society.

He explained that, following the Supreme Court verdict on Local Government administration in the country, he dissolved the 44 Local Governments Interim Management Committees making the civil servants to oversee the affairs of the councils while preparations are in the top gear to conduct elections and fill in democratically elected chairmen.

“Therefore, sensitising the top level civil servants on the occasioned leadership challenges especially on running an accountable government at all levels is necessary and timely.

“The government also noticed with dismay the potentiality of both grand and petty corruption at this grassroots level realised as a result of this administration’s effort to give the Local government councils full access to their funds even before the apex court’s intervention.

“Therefore, bringing the critical stakeholders to remind ourselves that this administration will not condone any act that undermines our efforts on zero tolerance on corruption is not only relevant but a necessity, hence the need for this workshop,” the governor said.

Yusuf vowed to deal with anyone who undermines his efforts of transparent and accountable system of governance.

He commended the anti-corruption bodies -the EFCC, ICPC and other institutions for supporting the anti-corruption effort in Kano state.

He urged the participants to utilise the workshop programme by bringing a viable change to Kano’s local government administration.

Chairman of the anti-corruption commission in the state, Muhuyi Rimingado, said the workshop was held at the directives of the governor, explaining that “governance is a trust.”
