Kano, The Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Barau Jibrin, has awarded postgraduate foreign scholarships to 70 students in Kano, to study artificial intelligence, cyber security, machine learning, and forensic sciences abroad.
The scholarships, offered through the Barau I Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), aim to empower the youth and secure the future of society.
The beneficiaries, comprising 65 males and 5 females, will pursue master’s degrees in the United States, Europe, Canada, and India.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of admission letters to the beneficiaries in Kano on Monday, Senator Barau emphasized the importance of investing in the educational development of the youth.
He stated that the program is designed to showcase the community’s commitment to empowering the youth, who are the pillars of societal development.
The Deputy Senate President noted that the foundation is building and empowering youths to meet the current global challenges, adding that this initiative is not politically motivated but rather aimed at making life better for them.
He explained that the beneficiaries were selected based on their academic qualifications, with a focus on those with first-class and second-class upper degrees.
Senator Barau also assured Nigerians that there is light at the end of the tunnel despite the current challenges facing the country.
He called on Nigerians to rally around President Bola Tinubu to resolve the challenges, emphasizing that it is the practice worldwide for people to come together to contribute towards resolving national challenges.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, represented by the State Minister for Education, Yusuf Sununu, advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity and ensure they pay back to the coming generations.
He also commended Senator Barau for his commitment to serving the people and called on other politicians to emulate his example.
The Minister noted that despite the government’s investments in the education sector, there are always gaps that require the active participation and contribution of all stakeholders to drive socio-economic development.
He praised Senator Barau’s efforts and contributions, stating that they are highly commendable and should be emulated by other politicians.
The beneficiaries’ parents and the students themselves expressed gratitude to Senator Barau for the gesture, promising to be good ambassadors of the state and the country.
