The Kano State Government has clarified that the N10 billion expenditure reported in the second quarter budget performance report was for the settlement of liabilities of local contractors, not for the purchase of furniture as previously reported.
Commissioner of Planning and Budget, Musa Sulaiman Shanono, addressed a press conference to correct the misinformation, stating that the actual amount spent on furniture and fittings was N596.6 million.
The commissioner attributed the error to a template mistake, which has since been addressed. He also presented the second quarter budget performance report, highlighting a total revenue of N222.5 billion (50.9% of the approved budget) and an expenditure of N163.6 billion (38%).
Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature, further clarified that the payment was made to clear the backlog of indigenous contractors’ liabilities and help them settle their debt burdens. He emphasized that the actual amount spent on furniture and office fittings was N596.6 million, not N10 billion.
The governor has directed the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to review the template and ensure accurate reporting to prevent future misrepresentation.
