Hunger:Islamic clerics caution against mass protests
By Aminu Garko
Kano, Some Kano-based Islamic clerics have cautioned against embarking on mass demonstrations to protest the current hunger situation in the country as it is being planned by some faceless groups.

The groups are calling for nationwide protests against the prevailing hunger, poverty and widespread suffering in the country, using the social media to enlist the support of the citizens to execute the project.
The clerics who spoke separately against the planned protests insisted that nothing good would come out of them, saying instead, they would plunge the country into “devastating woes and uncertainties.”
One of them,Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar, of Alfurqan Jummaat Mosque, said while preaching against the planned protests, said Nigerians should draw lessons from such countries as Libya,Sudan and Iraq whose citizens protested against similar conditions, but later regretted their actions.
“Countries like Sudan, Libya, Iraq, and many others were living peacefully but because of some economic difficulties, they were intoxicated with the idea of protesting against Government, look at what those protests led their countries to,now.
“The Islamic religion which always teaches us peace, harmony and strategic means of channeling grievances, prohibited taking to the streets against constituted authorities, so long as they are praying among you, what it tells us is that we should rather seek divine intervention to salvage the situation,” Dr Umar said.
Another cleric,Shiek Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said that anytime people choose violent means of channeling their sorrowful conditions, what follows is more devastating than their previous conditions.
“We have seen several countries today where nobody cares about education, health, water or even some small businesses, because what disturbed them is war and their urgent need is peace. This is because they chose the path of protests against the Government,” Daurawa said.
He appealed to Nigerians to shelve any idea of protest as end results would be devastating against everybody, citing the last #EndSars protests as an example.
On his part, Sheikh Yushau who featured in a Television programme, also condemned any moves to protests against the government.
Yushau said Nigerians should rather talk to the Government to find ways of alleviating their current conditions.
“I would have loved to see strong voices talking to the Government on the unfortunate conditions of Nigerians, rather than allowing some disgruntled elements to plunge the country into devastating woes,” he said.
The clerics therefore urged the organizers of the protests not to allow the enemies of Nigeria to use them to destroy the country.
