Kano residents decry Influx of thugs amidst Emirship Tussle, demand increased security

Kano Police Assure Residents of Prompt Action Against Hoodlums, Seek Credible Information

Residents of Gwale, Dala, and Municipal Local Government Areas in Kano State have expressed their dismay and fear over the growing presence of thugs in the ongoing emirship tussle in the state.

Some cross sections of the residents who spoke to News Agency of Nigeria NAN in Kano on Sunday appeal to Gov.Abba Kabiru Yusuf to conduct review and mapped out a comprehensive security network that would deal with the situation once and for all.

Alhaji Abubakar Mohammad, a resident of Gwale Local Government Area, said that the thugs have been terrorizing the community, and with impunity robbing children and women of their valuables, including phones and money.

Mohammad shared a personal experience where his wife was escorted, searched, and robbed of her phone and N15,000 while on her way to visit a relative at Murtala Mohammad Specialist Hospital.

He appealed to the Commissioner of Police to deploy more security personnel to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Malam Abdulmuni Shehu of Dala Local Government Area also called on the state government to deploy more security personnel, especially in the Charanchi area, to address the building security situation.

He lamented that residents, especially women and children, are now too afraid to carry their phones for fear of being attacked by the hoodlums.

Hajiya Aishatu Abu of Dan Agundi area echoed the same concerns, stating that residents have been unable to sleep since last week due to the presence of large numbers of hoodlums with sticks and dangerous weapons intimidating residents.

She urged the police command to deploy security measures to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all those involved.

Dr. Sani Zulyadain, a resident of Sagagi area in Kano Municipal Local Government, appealed to the state government to take drastic measures to end the activities of armed thugs who have been terrorizing innocent residents.

Zulyadain, said the thugs move from house to house, attacking residents, stealing phones, money, and valuables in Sagagi and Charanchi areas.

He emphasized the need for the government to bring an end to the activities of these criminals.

Malam Ishaku Ibrahim, another resident of Sagagi area, also appealed to Governor Abba Yusuf to intervene in the ongoing attacks by hoodlums in Sagagi and Magashi areas.

Ibrahim lamented that the thugs, who move in large numbers, have made life miserable for residents, attacking their wives and children, snatching phones, and beating others.

He stressed that the situation poses a significant threat to peaceful coexistence in the area and urged the government to take drastic action to address the issue.

The residents are calling for increased security measures, including foot patrols and plain security patrols, to apprehend the thugs and restore peace to the community.

They emphasized that the activities of these criminal-minded children pose a significant threat to the peace they enjoyed before the emirship tussle in the state.

Mean while the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, has assured residents of Kano State that the command is on top of the situation regarding the recent influx of hoodlums in the state.

Gumel stated that the police have mapped out security measures to apprehend those involved in the acts.

He appealed to residents to volunteer timely and credible information on the movement of hoodlums to the nearest security office for prompt action.

Additionally, the Commissioner of Information, Malam Baba Danteye, stated that the state government, police, and state security agencies are working together to bring to justice those behind the acts.

” Gov. Abba Yusuf administration is committed to promoting peaceful coexistence in the state through well-coordinated security measures that will bring about peace, progress, and political growth.

Danteye appealed to residents to complement the government’s efforts by volunteering reliable information on the movement of dubious characters for prompt security action.

The police have deployed more security personnel with modern working facilities to apprehend the miscreants and ensure the safety of residents.
