Governor Yusuf Releases N5 Billion for Second Phase of Pension Benefits

Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, of Kano State has launched the second phase of retirement and death benefits, worth N5 billion, for approximately 4,000 state and local government retirees.
This move follows the initial disbursement of N6 billion in November 2023, which settled the backlog of entitlements incurred by the previous administration.
Governor Yusuf’s administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing the needs of pensioners, who were previously denied their entitled benefits due to illegal deductions and systemic irregularities.
The government has established a stringent criteria to ensure equitable and transparent disbursement, with gratuities and death gratuities ranging from N1.6 million to N6.9 million.
A distinguished committee has been formed to oversee the implementation process, comprising representatives from the Pension Fund Trustees, the Sharia Court of Appeal, and other key agencies.
Governor Yusuf reiterated that pension and gratuity are fundamental rights, not privileges, and emphasized the state’s obligation to fulfill its commitments to elderly retirees promptly.
The government’s commitment to transparency and accountability has resulted in monthly pensions being disbursed on or before the 25th of each month, free from arbitrary deductions.
This dedication to the plight of pensioners has earned Governor Yusuf recognition as the most Pensioners-Friendly Governor of 2024 by the National Union of Pensioners.
