Kano, The Kano State Government has announced a substantial improvement in water supply, with 75% of the population now having access to portable drinking water.

This achievement comes just one year into the administration of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Haruna Makoda, the government spends over N1.2 billion monthly to ensure the supply of clean water to all parts of the state.

The commissioner highlighted the restoration of operations at Challawa and Watari Treatment Plants and the ongoing work at Tamburawa Treatment Plant.

Makoda also mentioned the recent approval and release of N502 million for the supply of water pumps to treatment plants, which will enhance the supply of clean water to the state.

The government has taken measures to ensure the security of water treatment plants, including the deployment of security personnel to prevent vandalism.

The commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and services, particularly water supply.

A committee has been established to work on water channeling networks in the state, and the government has approved the procurement of five tanks for the State Water Resources Agency (WRECCA).

The achievements in water supply are a testament to the government’s efforts to restore the lost glory of WRECCA and provide clean water to Kano’s growing population.
